Being Quoted by AI: Preparing Your Site for Answer Engines

Buyers increasingly ask an assistant before they open a search results page. Whether it names you depends on how your content is written.

From ten blue links to one summarised answer

Answer engines and AI assistants do not return a list for the user to evaluate. They synthesise a response and cite a few sources. Being one of those sources is a different discipline from ranking, though it rests on the same foundations.

The practical shift: write content that can be lifted as a self-contained answer, not content that only makes sense after three paragraphs of preamble.

What makes a page quotable

State the answer in the first two sentences under a heading phrased the way a person would ask it. Use specific numbers, named locations, dates and units. Keep entities unambiguous: the full company name, the exact product grade, the actual service area.

Support it with structured data so machines can parse the organisation, services, articles and questions on the page without guessing.

Local and generative visibility together

Consistent business details across your site, your listings and your profiles remain the backbone of local discovery, and they now also feed the models summarising your category. Contradictory information is worse than sparse information.

Review quarterly. The formats change quickly; the underlying requirement, which is clear, verifiable, well-structured expertise, does not.
